4 Ways To Revamp Your Bedroom For A Better Nights Sleep
This month marks World Sleep Day, so what better time to share advice on getting a good night’s sleep?
Whether it’s struggling to fall asleep or waking up at 4 a.m. and tossing and turning until your alarm goes off, we’ve all been there.
Sleep is critical for your physical and mental health. Getting the recommended 8 hours of sleep allows your body to recover and can improve productivity, mood, and even metabolism.
We are all familiar with the tried and true methods. Get rid of the coffee, and replace the screen with a book… Anyone for chamomile tea? But did you know that your bedroom decor and setup can also have an impact on your sleep?
Organize and de-stress
Clutter interferes with our ability to focus and sleep. A cluttered room is a to-do list staring you in the face.
Bedrooms full of junk can make your mind feel full of junk as well. You see unfinished tasks every time you look around your room (and broken promises to tidy up). What is the solution? TAKE CARE OF IT. Take on the cluttered chair in the corner (we’ve all seen it), clean up your room, and your mind will feel so much better.
You could even turn it into a semi-satisfying activity…
Consider storage baskets/trinket pots/drawer organisers. Can it get any better?
Mattresses Matter
When you house share, you use the mattress that came with the bed, which we get because mattresses are very expensive.
A rogue spring poking in your back, on the other hand, can really ruin your chances of getting in 8 hours. So, if you believe your mattress has been in the property for a decade and has passed its sell-by date, notify your landlord.
Other products can be used to personalise a generic mattress. A good mattress topper can be extremely beneficial.
In the absence of that, it is recommended that you turn or flip your mattress once a month.
Blackout
Most of the time, you’ll be using the window coverings that came with the room, which could be blinds or curtains that may not fully black out the room. Sleep eye masks are the simplest and quickest way to instantly black out your room. These are quick, low-cost solutions with immediate results.
Stay cool
Obviously, cranking up the heat, donning cosy socks, and snuggling under two blankets feels like the cosiest thing in the world – but sleeping in a hot room can be detrimental to a good night’s sleep.
This is because your body temperature drops during sleep, and an overly hot bedroom can prevent this from happening.
The solution? Try taking off a blanket or layer. When you drift off, you may feel a little cooler, but you’ll probably find that you’re out for longer – and better. Can’t stand the thought of losing your bed socks? Allow some cool air to circulate through the night by opening the window slightly.
