Keeping Warm and Cosy: Essential Tips for a Chilly Season

As the weather starts to cool down, we understand that staying warm becomes a top priority for housemates in shared houses. In this blog post, we’ll share some tips to help you stay cosy and comfortable throughout the chilly season. We recognise the significance of having a comfortable and welcoming living space and acknowledge the challenges posed by the current environmental and economic conditions. So let’s see how we can assist you in optimising your living space.

How We Keep Your Home Warm

Understanding the Heating System
As the seasons change, so does our heating system. We want to ensure you have a comfortable and cost-effective living experience, so our expert team takes critical energy and cost-saving measures. We’ve implemented a timer program that helps regulate the temperatures in the shared areas, ensuring a moderate and cosy atmosphere while keeping energy consumption in check.

Taking Control of Your Room’s Temperature
To give you more control over your personal comfort, we’ve equipped each room with individual thermostatic valves on the radiators. These valves enable you to customise the temperature to suit your preferences. It’s essential, however, to strike a balance between personal comfort and boiler efficiency. Excessive valve adjustments can lead to imbalances and affect the overall heating system performance. We’ve learned from past experiences and made significant improvements to enhance the heating system’s efficiency, ensuring a consistent and comfortable living environment for all housemates.

Important Reminders and Guidelines
As part of our commitment to providing a safe and efficient living space, we kindly remind all housemates not to use unauthorised heating devices in their rooms or communal areas like electric, paraffin or gas heaters. Adhering to this agreement helps us maintain a secure, safe and fire-compliant house for everyone’s benefit. We encourage all of our housemates to report any radiator issues promptly so that we can address them as quickly as possible.

Tips for Staying Warm

In addition to the heating system, we have some helpful tips to keep you warm and cosy:

  1. Put some more clothes on – We know this may sound obvious, but you won’t believe how many people don’t do this. So whack on a onesie, discover the joy of a jumper and dig out those fluffy slippers, layers are your friends!
  2. Open your blinds and curtains during the day – Let as much natural daylight through your windows as possible, the sun will heat it up for you naturally.
  3. Close your Windows at night – Keep the cool night air at bay. We know that ventilating your room is an important step to reducing condensation and mould, but a happy balance is always a good idea.
  4. Get a thicker duvet – this might seem really obvious, but we regularly see housemates with summer duvets or thin blankets on their beds in winter. So upgrade your TOG or get a quilted/weighted throw, we promise this will make a high difference.
  5. Make yourself a nice hot cuppa! – Hot beverages will raise your core temperature, warming you from the inside out. If you are not a fan of traditional tea or coffee, there are so many options out there for you to try from Herbal teas with health benefits to luxurious hot chocolates for those little treats
  6. Move More – When you move, your body increases blood flow to the muscles, which can help generate more heat and warm up your body faster. Physical activity, even simple movements like stretching or walking, can stimulate blood circulation and promote warmth throughout your body
